Queen Marking

Have you wanted to mark your queens but weren't sure how to go about it? Or maybe you were scared you would hurt her. Well with this simple homemade device you can safely mark your queens without any harm. This cage can be purchased through most bee equipment suppliers but I have always enjoyed making stuff myself. Plus it save a few bucks with little time invested.

The un-marked queen bee is safely placed into marking cage. Once inserted plunger should be replaced to keep queen from escaping. Slowly and gently press the plunger into the cage until the queen in stuck between the netting and the foam. Now she is held in place and ready to mark with your enamel paint maker.

Hold the marked queen in cage for 2 minutes to allow paint to dry. Then return her to her hive by slightly tilting the cage without the plunger over onto the top of the frames. Let her crawl out and the job is complete. Are you an aspiring beekeeper looking for help? Check out my new E-book which is pack full of beekeeping knowledge.
